DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Edward Prior, London, quadruple-cased verge fusee for Turkish market, 65mm outer case, two innermost cases silver and bearing London hallmarks for 1868, innermost with "A . T" marking in cameo for casemaker Alford Thickbroom, third case silver mounted brass covered in tortoise shell piqué, closed white metal outer case with attractive repoussé floral detail, white enamel dial with Turkish numerals, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and engraved foliate scrolled balance cock, s#77798. Comes with a very attractive 12-inch silver chain with T-bar and ornate key fob with oval carnelian.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, ticking in dial up position but stopping when turned dial down, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, gilt plates with some spots of clouding and fine scratches; dial with hl from center to edge at 4; excellent hands; outer case shows light wear, some mild dings, good engraving detail, button latch good, case closing with some gap throughout; second case shows light wear, bezel tortoise shell with numerous fractures, some areas of loss, and large portions significantly faded, rear tortoise shell with chip of loss at bottom edge and small fracture at lower-left, rear missing few piqué elements, button latch good, case closing with some gap around its upper portion, thick fabric pad in case currently causing it to not close when inner cases are inserted and this should be replaced with a thinner pad which will allow closure; third case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, excellent ornate engraving detail, button latch good; inner case shows light wear, few dings; bow pivots freely; good domed glass crystal with small finish imperfections. Chain and fob in excellent condition, showing light wear.
